Holy Week at Holy Family

This week begins the holiest week of the year.

On Passion (Palm) Sunday, we enter with Jesus on his journey to Easter and participate int he saving events that have redeemed us by the blood of the cross.

Everyone at Holy Family is urged to come to church for all or as many of these beautiful liturgies as you can. It would be a great shame if Catholics paid no attention to the stupendous meaning of the days of this week.

PASSION (PALM) SUNDAY
Saturday, March 28, 2026 – 5:30 pm
Sunday, March 29, 2026 –
 9:00 am and 11:00 am

Sunday we have our procession with palms at Mass. Then, on Tuesday of Holy Week we go tot he Cathedral for the Chrism Mass. Bishop Walkowiak will bless all the oils used during the coming year for anointing the sick, and anointing those to be baptized and consecrated with sacred chrism.

HOLY THURSDAY
Thursday, April 2, 2026 – 7:00 pm

Holy Thursday is celebrated with the Evening Mass of the Last Supper and the Washing of Feet. In all Catholic parishes, from Rome to Sparta, the birth of the Mass is commemorated as we remember what Jesus did at the Last Supper in giving us his Body and Blood and commissioning his apostles to do this in his memory. Jesus also shows them the spirit of his followers and how we are to imitate the humble, serving Christ who washed the feet of his disciples. Mass is at 7:00 pm.

GOOD FRIDAY SOLEMN LITURGY
Friday, April 3, 2026 – 1:00 pm

Good Friday Solemn Liturgy begins at 1:00 pm. During this most awesome liturgy, we commemorate the passion and death of our Savior as he suffered and died for us on Calvary. The liturgy consists of three parts: liturgy of the word, veneration of the cross, and holy communion. The focus of this day is on the cross of Christ. It is a solemn and sober day and is honored as a day of both fast and abstinence. Let our homes be quiet and reflective for this day of Christ’s death.

HOLY SATURDAY EASTER VIGIL AND EASTER SUNDAY
Saturday, April 4, 2026 – 8:00 pm
Sunday, April 5, 2026 – 9:00 am & 11:00 am

Holy Saturday Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday are the high point of Holy Week. The “Mother of all vigils” is the Vigil Service on Saturday night beginning at 8:00 pm. Our candidate, Jim Blackall will make his profession of faith in the Catholic Church, receiving Confirmation and the Eucharist. All of us will renew our baptismal promises and be sprinkled with the blessed water as a renewal of our baptism. We rise with Christ to new life in him. Alleluia becomes our song – we are ourselves living Alleluias!
