Epiphany Proclamation 2021 –\u00a0 Printable version<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

While a day like Christmas is fixed in our minds and on the calendars on December 25th, many of the important feasts of the Church year move, based upon the date that Easter is set. Easter changes each year moving to the Sunday after the “Paschal Full Moon,” and can fall between March 22 and April 25.<\/p>\n

In ancient times before calendars were common, most people did not know the dates for the upcoming Liturgical year. On Epiphany Sunday, the upcoming dates were “proclaimed” after the gospel in this way:<\/p>\n

\nD<\/span><\/span>ear brothers and sisters,
\nthe glory of the Lord has shone upon us,
\nand shall ever be manifest among us,
\nuntil the day of his return.<\/p>\n

Through the rhythms of times and seasons
\nlet us celebrate the mysteries of salvation.<\/p>\n

Let us recall the year’s culmination,
\nthe\u00a0Easter Triduum<\/span>\u00a0of the Lord:
\nhis last supper, his crucifixion, his burial,
\nand his rising celebrated
\nbetween the evening of the First of April
\nand the evening of the Third of April,
\nEaster Sunday<\/span>\u00a0being on the Fourth day of April.<\/p>\n

Each Easter — as on each Sunday —
\nthe Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed
\nby which Christ has for ever conquered sin and death.
\nFrom Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy.<\/p>\n

Ash Wednesday<\/span>, the beginning of Lent,
\nwill occur on the Seventeenth day of February.<\/p>\n

The Ascension<\/span>\u00a0of the Lord will be commemorated on
\nSunday, the Sixteenth day of May or Thursday, the Thirteenth day of May.<\/p>\n

Pentecost<\/span>, joyful conclusion of the season of Easter,
\nwill be celebrated on the Twenty-third day of May.<\/p>\n

And, this year the\u00a0First Sunday of Advent<\/span>\u00a0will be
\non the Twenty-eighth day of November, 2021.<\/p>\n

Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the passover of Christ
\nin the feasts of the holy Mother of God,
\nin the feasts of the Apostles and Saints,
\nand in the commemoration of the faithful departed.<\/p>\n

To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come,
\nLord of time and history,
\nbe endless praise, for ever and ever.<\/p>\n

Amen.<\/p>\n
