Pope Paul VI , in his 1965 encyclical on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/paul-vi\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/hf_p-vi_enc_29041965_mense-maio.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-type=\"web\">Month of May<\/a>\u00a0devotion urged the faithful to make use of this practice which is &#8220;gladdening and consoling&#8221; &#8211; sounds like just what just what we need now!<\/div>\n<div>You can read a brief article on how the month of May became dedicated to honoring our Mother Mary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/blog\/mfenelon\/why-is-may-the-month-of-mary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> .<\/div>\n<h3>There are any number of ways to celebrate Mary this month &#8211; here are just a few:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>May Altar<\/strong> \u2013 We can honor Mary as the Mother of the Church in our homes &#8211; the domestic churches. Maybe you already have a prayer corner that could include a special place for Mary during May. You can honor Mary with a May altar easily with things you may already have at home.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Image of the Blessed Mother: Usually a statue of Mary is used, but if you don\u2019t have a statue, a holy card or picture will do, (or check your nativity set for a Mary figurine).<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Altar cloth: Cover the table or shelf with blue fabric, tablecloth, or place mat<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Candle: Any size or number of candles is fine.<\/li>\n<li>Flowers:\u00a0A bouquet, or a vase to add flowering branches or blooms from your yard as they start to blossom this month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>This special altar is a visual reminder of Mary\u2019s loving and maternal presence in our lives. Praying before it we can, in the words of Pope Paul VI, &#8220;let our petitions fly to Our Lady\u2014especially for the needs of the Church and the whole human race\u2014that most urgently require our Blessed Mother\u2019s intercession&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>The Most Holy Rosary &#8211;<\/strong> Outside of Mass there is no other prayer more pleasing to our Mother than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marian.org\/mary\/rosary\/howto.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-type=\"web\">Rosary.<\/a> St. John Paul II in his document on the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary insisted, pleaded, that the whole world pray the Holy Rosary for the salvation of the family and for world peace.<\/div>\n<div>On May 13th we celebrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cathdal.org\/home\/a-brief-history-of-our-lady-of-fatima\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-type=\"web\">Our Lady of Fatima<\/a> who appeared six times to the Shepherd children\u2014Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, insisting upon the praying of the most Holy Rosary. Let us also be obedient children and pray our Mother&#8217;s requested prayer.<\/div>\n<h3>Learn or pray a new Marian Devotion (there are a lot of them!) Try one of these:<\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/a6325003601\/d8791518-ddc1-4f4f-b07f-3f6460a0c087.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-type=\"document\">Regina Caeli <\/a>(Queen of Heaven)\u00a0&#8211; this prayer is prayed during the Easter season, traditionally\u00a0at noon. You can see how to make a simple crown here with ribbon and silk flowers. Sometimes there is a procession with the crown and special hymns can be sung<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">.<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vST--E8suls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-type=\"web\">Hail Holy Queen Enthroned Above<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Make a Mary Garden<\/strong> &#8211; Having a Mary Garden can provide a quiet place for reflection. Maybe it can be a witness to a neighbor to spark a faith-filled conversation. Usually there is a statue or image of Mary at the center if possible. You can include stepping stones or rocks and of course flowers! There are even flowers that signify Mary that you may want to include from <a href=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/a6325003601\/731c4ce6-d6d5-4808-9e8d-0525635422de.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-link-type=\"document\">this list<\/a>. Remember there is always our Mary Garden here at the parish where you can spend some time in prayer too!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Imitate Mary<\/strong> &#8211; If we truly love somebody, then we want to get to know them better, follow them more closely and finally to imitate their good qualities that we call virtues. St. Louis de Montfort in his classic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewtn.com\/library\/Montfort\/TRUEDEVO.HTM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">True Devotion to Mary<\/a>\u00a0gives us a list of the ten principal virtues of Mary to imitate:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Her deep humility,<\/li>\n<li>lively faith,<\/li>\n<li>blind obedience,<\/li>\n<li>unceasing prayer,<\/li>\n<li>constant self-denial,<\/li>\n<li>surpassing purity,<\/li>\n<li>ardent love,<\/li>\n<li>heroic patience,<\/li>\n<li>angelic kindness,<\/li>\n<li>and heavenly wisdom!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>St. Louis teaches us:\u00a0\u201cThe greatest saints, those richest in grace and virtue will be the most assiduous in praying to the most Blessed Virgin, looking up to her as the perfect model to imitate and as a powerful helper to assist them.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday May 1st\u00a0#PrayTogether with Bishop Walkowiak and the faithful of the United States as we renew our consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary on Friday, May 1st!
