For this year’s phase one, we are applying for a Michigan Arbor Day Foundation $2,000 grant to pay for half the cost of purchasing 6’ – 10’ tall trees.  Parishioners pay for half the cost plus $20 for deer protection and maintenance costs for your tree.

This choice of trees support more species of moths and butterflies than any other.  They improve critically diminishing habitat for  birds also, because 94% of birds feed their young insects.  Caterpillars are their favorite!

Trees also capture stormwater runoff in their leaves and roots. Leaves use pollution from the stormwater to make food and release clean oxygen.  Roots clean water and recharge the groundwater table.  (Unlike lawns, where polluted stormwater floods directly into the watershed as it would on a piece of cement.)
